Active Body Control (ABC)
The car sitting down on one corner, a red or yellow ABC warning, a hydraulic whine, or fluid on the floor under the car.
ABC is hydraulic, not air, and it runs at over 200 bar. The system is a high-pressure tandem pump, four hydraulic struts with their own sensors, pressure accumulators, a pulsation damper, valve blocks and a fluid reservoir with a filter. None of it interchanges with AIRMATIC — an air strut will not go on an ABC car and the two are not the same money. Accumulators lose their charge with age, and the symptom of that is a harsh ride and a car that settles, which is easily read as a failed strut and is a far larger bill. The fluid and the filter are part of the repair rather than an extra: contaminated fluid is what kills the valve blocks in the first place.
