In-tank fuel pump and sender

The low-pressure pump inside the tank that feeds the engine, usually built into one assembly with the fuel level sender.

Also called lift pump, fuel pump module.

How you know it is this

  • A car that cranks but will not start, with no fuel pressure
  • Cutting out when hot, then restarting once cool
  • A loud whine from the rear of the car
  • Misfire and loss of power under load, worse with a low tank

Worth knowing before you buy

  • It is cooled and lubricated by the fuel around it. Running the tank near empty habitually is the single most common reason one fails early.
  • Usually supplied as a module with the sender, the strainer and the seal — which is the sensible way to buy it.
  • A diesel has a low-pressure pump feeding a separate high-pressure pump. Which one has failed changes the price enormously.
  • Listen at the filler with the ignition on: a healthy pump primes for a couple of seconds.

What we need to quote it. Petrol or diesel, and the engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
