Throttle body

The valve controlling how much air enters the engine — on modern cars an electric motor rather than a cable.

Also called throttle actuator, throttle valve.

How you know it is this

  • A limp mode with a throttle actuator fault
  • Erratic or hunting idle
  • Hesitation off the line, or a throttle that feels delayed
  • Heavy carbon build-up visible around the butterfly

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Cleaning often fixes it. Carbon around the butterfly is the most common cause and costs nothing but time.
  • Most need re-adaptation with a diagnostic tool after cleaning or replacing, or the idle stays wrong.
  • The motor and position sensors are inside and usually not separately available.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
