Sunroof motor and mechanism

The motor, cables and guide mechanism that slide and tilt the sunroof, with the drain tubes that carry water away.

How you know it is this

  • A sunroof that opens but will not close, or sticks part way
  • A grinding from the roof
  • Water dripping into the cabin, usually at the A-pillar or the headlining corners
  • A roof that has jammed at an angle

Worth knowing before you buy

  • WATER IN THE CABIN FROM A SUNROOF IS ALMOST ALWAYS BLOCKED DRAIN TUBES, not a failed seal. A sunroof is designed to let some water in and drain it away; when the tubes block, it comes inside instead. Clearing them costs nothing.
  • The plastic guide shoes and cables break with heat and age, and that is the usual mechanical failure here.
  • Needs re-initialising after any work, or it will not run to its end stops.
  • A jammed roof can usually be closed manually with the emergency drive — worth knowing before it rains.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether the complaint is movement or water. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
