Also called crankcase breather, PCV, oil separator.
How you know it is this
- Oil leaks appearing at several seals at once
- A whistle from the engine at idle
- The oil filler cap being hard to remove, or being sucked down
- Blue smoke and high oil consumption
- A rough idle with a lean code
Worth knowing before you buy
- THIS IS THE PART BEHIND MOST 'MYSTERY' OIL LEAKS. A blocked breather pressurises the crankcase and pushes oil out of whichever seal is weakest. Replacing that seal without fixing the breather just moves the leak.
- The diaphragm is often built into the cam cover, so the two jobs are the same job.
- Cheap, and worth checking any time more than one seal is weeping.
What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
