Xenon ballast and igniter

The ballast that steps voltage up to strike and run a xenon bulb, and the igniter that provides the initial pulse.

Also called HID ballast, starter unit, control unit.

How you know it is this

  • A xenon that flickers, or lights briefly and goes out
  • One xenon dead with a new bulb already fitted
  • A light that only works sometimes, usually worse cold
  • A lighting fault code naming one side

Worth knowing before you buy

  • If a new bulb does not cure a dead xenon, this is the next thing — and it is a fraction of the price of a headlamp.
  • Ballast and igniter are sometimes one part and sometimes two. Establish which before ordering.
  • Side-specific on many cars.
  • Swapping the ballast left to right is a free test that proves it in minutes.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number and left or right. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
