Idler and pitman arms

On the recirculating-ball steering used by the G-Class and older vans: the pitman arm off the steering box and the idler arm supporting the other end of the drag link.

How you know it is this

  • Vague, wandering steering with a lot of free play at the wheel
  • Play visible at the arm when someone rocks the wheel
  • The vehicle following ruts in the road

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Not fitted to rack-and-pinion cars. This is a G-Class, older van and older 4x4 item.
  • Free play at the wheel usually comes from these before it comes from the box.
  • Alignment afterwards.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
