Tailgate struts and hinges

The gas or powered struts that lift and hold the tailgate, and its hinges.

How you know it is this

  • A tailgate that will not stay up
  • A tailgate that opens slowly or drops
  • A powered tailgate that opens part way and stops
  • Creaking hinges

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Gas struts are a wear item and lose pressure with age and heat. Always in pairs.
  • POWERED STRUTS ARE A DIFFERENT PART from gas struts and far dearer. A powered tailgate that stops part way is usually a strut, and it can often be run manually meanwhile.
  • A powered system usually needs re-initialising after a strut change.
  • A tailgate falling on someone is a real risk — this is worth doing promptly.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether the tailgate is powered. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
