Map-controlled thermostat

An electrically heated thermostat that the engine management can force open early, to hold a higher running temperature at light load and drop it under load.

Also called electronic thermostat, map thermostat.

How you know it is this

  • A fault code naming thermostat or coolant temperature regulation
  • The engine running hotter or cooler than the map expects
  • A check-engine light with no driveability complaint

Worth knowing before you buy

  • It has an electrical connector. A plain mechanical thermostat will fit the hole and then put a permanent fault on the dash.
  • The heating element fails more often than the wax element, so it stops being controllable while still working as a basic thermostat.
  • Confirm which type your engine takes before ordering — the two look similar.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
