How you know it is this
- A deep boom or a loud, uneven note
- Rattling from inside the box
- Rust holes, usually along the bottom seam
- A tailpipe trim that has discoloured or come loose
Worth knowing before you buy
- It rots from condensation inside, which is why short journeys kill an exhaust faster than long ones.
- AMG and sports exhausts often have valves in the back box, and those are a different and dearer part with electrical or vacuum connections.
- Tailpipe trims are frequently available separately, which is much cheaper when the box itself is fine.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether the car has a sports exhaust with valves. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
