How you know it is this
- A key that will not turn, or turns without anything happening
- Electrics that come on and then drop out
- A key that will not come out
- The car not recognising the key at all
Worth knowing before you buy
- On many Mercedes this involves the electronic steering lock, which is a coded module — not a mechanical barrel. That changes the job entirely.
- Anything with the immobiliser in it has to be coded to the car, and key programming may be needed.
- A worn barrel and a worn key wear together. A new barrel with an old key often does not solve it.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether the car has a key or a start button. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
