Cylinder head

The casting on top of the block holding the valves, camshafts and combustion chambers.

How you know it is this

  • Coolant loss with no external leak, and white smoke from the exhaust
  • Mayonnaise-like residue under the oil cap
  • Overheating, then a persistent misfire on one cylinder
  • Compression lost on one cylinder with no piston damage

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Usually the consequence of an overheat, not a failure in itself. Find out why it overheated or the new head goes the same way.
  • A head can often be skimmed and pressure-tested for far less than a replacement — worth quoting both.
  • Supplied bare or complete with camshafts and valves. Which you need changes the price substantially.
  • Head bolts are single-use.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether you want it bare or complete. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
