Switch packs and buttons

The button clusters around the cabin — console, dashboard, overhead and door.

How you know it is this

  • Lettering worn off
  • A button that needs pressing hard or twice
  • A sticky, soft-touch surface
  • Illumination that has failed behind one button

Worth knowing before you buy

  • SOFT-TOUCH COATING DEGRADES IN THIS HEAT and goes tacky. It is the commonest interior complaint on a Gulf car and it is a coating failure, not wear.
  • Refinishing a sticky switch pack is a real option and costs far less than replacing it.
  • Drinks spilled into a console reach these first, and that corrodes contacts rather than just marking them.
  • Individual buttons are sometimes available separately from the pack.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number and a photograph of the pack. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
