Inner tie rods

The inner joint where the steering rod screws into the rack, hidden under the rubber gaiter.

Also called inner rack end, axial joint.

How you know it is this

  • Play in the steering that is not the outer track rod end
  • A knock through the wheel that changes with steering input
  • A gaiter full of grease that has been thrown off a worn joint

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Frequently mistaken for a failed rack, and a fraction of the price. Worth checking before replacing anything large.
  • The gaiter has to come off to reach it, so fit a new gaiter at the same time.
  • Alignment afterwards.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
