Electric power steering motor

The electric motor that provides assistance on cars with no hydraulic system.

Also called EPS motor.

How you know it is this

  • Assistance cutting out, often with a warning, and returning after a restart
  • Steering that is heavy at low speed only
  • A steering fault code with no fluid anywhere, because there is none to leak

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Often integrated with the rack and not separately available — which decides whether this is a modest or a large bill.
  • Needs coding to the car.
  • Intermittent assistance is frequently a connector or an earth rather than the motor. Get it scanned first.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
