Oil cooler seals

The O-rings sealing the engine oil cooler where oil and coolant run side by side.

How you know it is this

  • Oil in the coolant expansion tank, or coolant in the oil
  • A milky film that is NOT accompanied by overheating or white exhaust smoke

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Oil and coolant mixing does not automatically mean a head gasket. On several Mercedes engines these seals are the far more likely and far cheaper cause.
  • Cheap part, significant labour, so worth doing with anything else in that area.
  • The cooling system needs flushing afterwards — oil in coolant ruins the rest of the system if it is left.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
