How you know it is this
- The engine taking a very long time to warm up, or never reaching normal
- Overheating with a cold radiator — stuck shut
- Poor heater output and heavy fuel consumption
- A leak from the plastic housing
Worth knowing before you buy
- Stuck OPEN is the quiet failure: the car runs cold, uses more fuel and wears faster, with no warning light. Stuck SHUT is the loud one and overheats in minutes.
- The housing usually cracks before the thermostat fails, and on most engines they are supplied as one unit.
- Cheap, and worth doing with any radiator or pump job because the system is drained anyway.
What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
