Water pump and gasket

The pump that circulates coolant through the engine, driven by the accessory belt or the timing chain.

How you know it is this

  • A weep or crusty deposit from the pump's small drain hole
  • A rumble or whine from the front of the engine that changes with revs
  • Overheating with the radiator staying cold — the coolant is not moving
  • Play felt in the pump pulley

Worth knowing before you buy

  • The drain hole is a designed early warning. Coolant weeping from it means the seal has gone and the bearing is next.
  • When a belt-driven pump seizes it shreds the accessory belt, and then the alternator and the steering stop as well.
  • If the pump is behind the timing cover, do it with the chain or belt — the labour is the same job twice otherwise.
  • Always with a new gasket or O-ring, never reusing the old one.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether the pump is belt or chain driven. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
