Oil level sensor

The sensor in the sump that reports oil level to the dash on cars with no dipstick.

How you know it is this

  • A level warning that contradicts the actual level
  • No level reading at all in the instrument menu
  • A reading that swings wildly

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Many later Mercedes have no dipstick at all, so this sensor is the only reading you get — a faulty one leaves you blind rather than merely annoyed.
  • In the sump, so access is the cost.
  • A reading that swings is often sludge on the sensor rather than a failure.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
