Auxiliary (electric) water pump

A small electric pump that circulates coolant when the engine is not running or not turning fast enough — for the turbo, the heater or the charge cooler.

Also called auxiliary pump, electric coolant pump.

How you know it is this

  • No heat from the heater at idle, which improves when revved
  • A fault code naming an auxiliary coolant pump
  • A turbo running hot after shutdown

Worth knowing before you buy

  • A modern car may have several of these doing different jobs. The fault code names which.
  • They fail silently — nothing overheats, but the turbo loses its cool-down circulation, which shortens its life.
  • Cheap and usually accessible compared with the main pump.

What we need to quote it. The engine code and the fault codes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
