Crankshaft

The shaft the pistons drive, turning their up-and-down into rotation.

How you know it is this

  • Scored or ovalled journals found when bearings are changed
  • A heavy knock at low revs under load
  • Repeated bearing failure

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Usually reground rather than replaced, which is far cheaper. Ask for both prices.
  • A crank can only be ground so many times before it is scrap; the journals have to be measured first.
  • Bearings must match the grind size.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether the crank has been ground before. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
