Engine block

The main casting — the cylinders, the crankcase and the water jackets.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Supplied bare, as a short block (with crank and pistons) or as a long block (with the head as well). Say which, because the difference is most of the price.
  • A block is only worth buying when a bore or the crankcase is damaged. Almost everything else is repairable without one.
  • On an older car, price a complete used engine against a block — it is often less and it comes with everything.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether you want bare, short or long. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
