Starter solenoid and pinion

The solenoid that throws the pinion gear into the flywheel and closes the heavy current contacts, and the pinion itself.

How you know it is this

  • A single click with no cranking
  • A grinding noise on starting — the pinion and ring gear are not meshing cleanly
  • The starter staying engaged after the engine has fired

Worth knowing before you buy

  • The contacts inside burn and pit, and that is what causes the click-and-nothing. Contact kits are available for many starters and cost a fraction of the unit.
  • A grinding pinion damages the flywheel ring gear. Left alone, a cheap repair becomes a gearbox-out job.
  • Often serviceable without removing the whole starter on accessible installations.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
