Gearbox oil pan, filter and gasket kit

The gearbox sump, the filter inside it and the gasket — usually sold as one service kit.

How you know it is this

  • A gearbox service is due
  • Harsh shifting that improves briefly after a fluid change
  • A leak from the pan flange
  • Debris or metallic glitter found in the old pan

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Mercedes long called these 'sealed for life'. They are not, and in this climate a fluid and filter service is one of the cheapest things that extends a gearbox's life.
  • On many boxes the filter is bonded into the pan, so the pan is the filter — that is why it is sold as a kit.
  • The fluid must match the gearbox code. The wrong fluid causes harsh shifting quickly.
  • What comes out of the pan is a diagnosis. Fine grey sludge is normal wear; hard metal flakes are not.

What we need to quote it. The gearbox code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
