Airbag control module

The module that decides when to fire the airbags and pretensioners, and stores the crash record.

Also called SRS module, airbag ECU.

How you know it is this

  • An airbag warning light that will not clear
  • A crash-data fault stored after an accident
  • No communication with the airbag module

Worth knowing before you buy

  • THIS IS A SAFETY SYSTEM. After a deployment the module stores a crash record and must be replaced or professionally reset — it will not simply clear.
  • Coded and configured to the car, always.
  • Work on airbags needs the battery disconnected and time allowed for the system to discharge. It is not a DIY item.
  • Most airbag lights are a seat occupancy sensor, a clock spring or a connector under a seat — all far cheaper. Get the code read before assuming the module.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number, the fault codes, and whether the car has been in an accident. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
