Conductor plate and valve body

The electro-hydraulic control layer inside the gearbox — the valve body that directs fluid, and the conductor plate carrying the solenoids, sensors and internal wiring.

Also called conductor plate, valve body, VGS.

How you know it is this

  • Harsh or delayed shifts, especially cold
  • Stuck in one gear, or limp mode
  • The gear display flickering or showing nothing
  • A speed sensor fault, or implausible gearbox signals
  • Red fluid at the gearbox electrical connector

Worth knowing before you buy

  • ON THE 722.9 THIS IS THE COMMON FAULT AND IT IS NOT A GEARBOX. Many cars condemned as needing a gearbox need this instead, at a small fraction of the cost. Always establish which before ordering anything large.
  • The site's gearbox reference sets out why the generation matters: early 722.9 units built 2004–2008 are VGS1 and usually need the valve body AND the conductor plate; later VGS2 and VGS3 can often be done with the conductor plate and control unit alone. That decides the price, so establish it first.
  • The plate is usually coded or adapted to the car after fitting.
  • Done with the pan, filter and fluid, since the box is open anyway.

What we need to quote it. The gearbox code, the chassis number, and the fault codes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
