Voltage regulator

The unit controlling how hard the alternator works, holding charging voltage where the battery needs it. Usually with the brushes.

Also called regulator, brush pack.

How you know it is this

  • Charging voltage too low, so the battery never fills
  • Charging voltage too high, which boils the battery and burns bulbs
  • A battery light that flickers

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Usually one part with the carbon brushes, and brush wear is the common failure rather than the electronics.
  • Replacing it is far cheaper than an alternator and on many units it unbolts from the back without removing the alternator.
  • Overcharging destroys a battery quickly and is worth catching early — it also kills bulbs and can damage modules.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and the measured charging voltage. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
