Intercooler

The radiator that cools the compressed air between the turbo and the engine, so more of it fits in the cylinder.

Also called charge air cooler, CAC.

How you know it is this

  • Loss of power with a boost leak code
  • Oil pooled in the intercooler, usually after a turbo problem
  • Visible stone damage to the fins, or a wet, oily patch on the core

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Sits at the front of the car and is damaged by stones and minor knocks more than it wears out.
  • After any turbo failure it must be flushed or replaced — the oil inside will be drawn into the new turbo.
  • Some cars run a water-cooled charge air cooler instead, which is a different part in a different place.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
