How you know it is this
- A worn, shiny or peeling knob
- A lever that feels loose
- A selector that will not move out of Park
- Illumination that has failed
Worth knowing before you buy
- The knob is frequently available separately from the lever and is a fraction of the price — and it is usually the part that has worn.
- Cannot leave Park is normally the shift interlock or the brake light switch, not the selector.
- Later cars use a column stalk with no console lever at all.
- The leather gaiter around the lever is another separate, cheap part that perishes here.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number and a photograph. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
