Ignition coils and coil packs

The transformers that step battery voltage up to the tens of thousands of volts a spark needs. Usually one per cylinder.

Also called coil pack, pencil coil.

How you know it is this

  • A misfire on one cylinder that MOVES when the coil is swapped to another cylinder
  • A misfire that appears under load or in the rain
  • A cracked coil body, or visible tracking marks
  • A flashing engine light

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Swapping the suspect coil to another cylinder and seeing whether the misfire follows it is the definitive test, and it is free.
  • Heat is what kills them here. A car that lives in this climate goes through coils faster than the same car in Europe.
  • Always with new plugs. A worn plug needs a higher voltage to fire and that is what kills the coil.
  • Sold individually. Say how many.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and how many. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
