Camshafts

The shafts whose lobes push the valves open, one or two per cylinder head.

How you know it is this

  • A tapping from the top of the engine that does not change with a new lifter
  • Visible scoring or flat spots on a lobe
  • A camshaft position fault with correct timing

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Lobe wear usually means an oil supply problem. Find it before fitting a new shaft.
  • Inlet and exhaust camshafts are different parts, and a V engine has them per bank.
  • The bearing caps are machined with the head and are not interchangeable between engines.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, inlet or exhaust, and which bank. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
