How you know it is this
- Hesitation and loss of power under load, worst uphill or fully loaded
- Hard starting
- A rail pressure fault
- It is simply due — this is a service item
Worth knowing before you buy
- On a diesel this is the cheapest insurance there is against a high-pressure pump failure that can cost a hundred times as much.
- Diesel filters must be primed correctly on fitting, or the car will not start and the pump runs dry.
- Many petrol cars have the filter inside the tank as part of the pump module, with no separate service item.
- Fuel quality varies. Shorter intervals than the book are cheap here.
What we need to quote it. The engine code, petrol or diesel. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
