Spark plugs

The plugs that ignite the mixture. Petrol only.

How you know it is this

  • A misfire, worst under load or when cold
  • Rough idle and a flashing engine light
  • Hard starting and poor economy
  • It is simply due — this is a service item

Worth knowing before you buy

  • A whole set, always. Replacing one plug on a car with five tired ones just moves the misfire.
  • The heat range and reach are specific to the engine. A plug that is physically similar but the wrong reach can touch a piston.
  • AMG engines often take a different plug from the standard version of the same block.
  • A FLASHING engine light means a misfire severe enough to damage the catalytic converter. That is a stop-driving symptom, not a book-it-in one.
  • Reading the old plugs tells you a lot — oily, sooty or white plugs each point somewhere different.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and how many cylinders. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
