Parking brake cables

The steel cables running from the lever or actuator back to each rear brake.

How you know it is this

  • A parking brake that works on one side only
  • A lever that pulls up much too far, or will not release
  • Visible fraying or a split outer sheath underneath the car

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Usually replaced as a pair — the second one is rarely far behind the first.
  • Corrosion inside the outer sheath is the normal failure. The cable seizes rather than snaps.
  • Adjustment after fitting matters; over-tightened, the shoes drag and cook the rear discs.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
