Also called HPFP, common rail pump.
How you know it is this
- Long cranking before starting, especially when hot
- A rail pressure fault code
- Loss of power under load, or limp mode
- A loud knocking from the pump
Worth knowing before you buy
- When a diesel high-pressure pump fails internally it sends metal particles through the entire fuel system. That usually means the injectors, the rail, the lines and the tank too — not just the pump. It is the most expensive way a fuel system fails.
- Because of that, a pump failure should always be quoted with the system contamination checked, not as a pump on its own.
- Fuel quality and water in the fuel are the usual causes. The filter and the water separator are what protect it.
- Petrol direct-injection pumps are driven off the camshaft and their follower wears — a much cheaper and more contained failure.
What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether the fuel system has been checked for contamination. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
