Manifold pressure (MAP) sensor

The sensor reading pressure inside the inlet manifold, which tells the engine how hard it is working.

Also called MAP sensor, boost sensor.

How you know it is this

  • Poor running under load
  • Over- or underboost codes on a turbo car
  • Black smoke on a diesel

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Soot and oil mist coat the element on diesels, and cleaning sometimes restores it.
  • Cheap. Always worth ruling out before turbo work.
  • Some engines have both a MAF and a MAP and use them to check each other, so one failing throws codes that implicate the other.

What we need to quote it. The engine code and the fault codes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
