Also called cam cover, valve cover.
How you know it is this
- Oil seeping down the side or back of the engine
- A smell of burning oil after a run, from oil dripping onto the manifold
- Oil in the spark plug wells
Worth knowing before you buy
- One of the most common oil leaks on a Mercedes, and one of the cheaper ones.
- Many covers are plastic and warp with heat, so a new gasket on an old warped cover leaks again. Check the cover is flat.
- The breather and its diaphragm are often built into the cover — a failed one causes high crankcase pressure and pushes oil out of every other seal.
- Spark plug well seals are usually part of the same gasket.
What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
