Turbo actuator and wastegate

The mechanism that controls how much boost the turbo makes — either by bleeding exhaust past it or by changing the angle of its vanes.

Also called VNT actuator, wastegate, turbo solenoid.

How you know it is this

  • Limp mode with an underboost or overboost code
  • A rattle from the turbo at light load
  • Power that comes and goes
  • A sticking actuator rod, visible with the engine running

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Far cheaper than a turbo and a far more common failure. Always worth checking first.
  • Electronic actuators usually need calibrating to the turbo after fitting.
  • Carbon jamming the vanes is often the real fault, and cleaning can fix it without any part at all.

What we need to quote it. The engine code and the fault codes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
