HT leads

The thick insulated leads carrying the spark from a coil pack or distributor to the plugs, on older engines.

Also called plug leads, ignition leads.

How you know it is this

  • A misfire in damp weather that clears when dry
  • Visible blue sparking around the leads in the dark with the engine running
  • Cracked or hardened insulation

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Older cars only. Modern engines have a coil directly on each plug and no leads at all.
  • Always as a set — they are the same age.
  • The dark-engine-bay test finds a tracking lead in seconds and costs nothing.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
