Wheel bearings and hub assemblies

The bearing the wheel spins on, supplied either as a bearing alone or as a complete hub with the bearing already in it.

Also called hub bearing, wheel hub.

How you know it is this

  • A drone or rumble that rises with road speed and changes when you sway the car side to side
  • Noise that goes quiet on one direction of curve and loud on the other
  • Play felt when the wheel is rocked top to bottom
  • An ABS light, because the sensor ring is often part of the bearing

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Swaying the car in a gentle curve is the best test: a bearing noise changes with load, a tyre noise does not.
  • Many modern hubs have the ABS sensor ring built in, so a bearing failure and an ABS fault arrive together.
  • Pressed bearings need a press; complete hub assemblies bolt on. Which your car takes changes the labour more than the part price.
  • One at a time is normal — bearings do not fail in pairs the way dampers do.

What we need to quote it. Front or rear, and which side. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
