Power steering pump

The belt-driven pump that provides hydraulic assistance on cars that do not have electric steering.

Also called PAS pump, power steering pump.

How you know it is this

  • A whine that rises with engine speed and gets worse on lock
  • Heavy steering, especially when parking
  • Fluid leaking from the front of the engine
  • Foaming fluid in the reservoir

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Check the fluid level and condition first. Low or aerated fluid makes a healthy pump whine.
  • On S-Class, CL and SL with ABC the steering pump is part of the tandem pump and cannot be bought separately.
  • Debris from a failed pump travels into the rack. Flush the system, or the new pump kills the rack.

What we need to quote it. Whether the car has ABC — that changes which pump it takes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
