Also called front caliper.
How you know it is this
- The car pulling to one side under braking
- One wheel much hotter than the other after a drive, or a smell of hot brakes
- Fluid weeping around the piston or the hose union
- Uneven pad wear — inner pad gone, outer barely touched
Worth knowing before you buy
- Side-specific. A left caliper will not fit the right side; the bleed nipple ends up at the bottom and it cannot be bled.
- Often repairable with a seal kit if the bore is clean. If the bore is pitted, the caliper is scrap.
- A seized caliper usually takes the disc and pads with it. Expect to quote all three.
- Fixed multi-piston calipers on AMG and sports-pack cars are a different and dearer item from the sliding caliper on the standard car.
What we need to quote it. Left or right, and whether the car is on standard or AMG/sports brakes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
