Propshaft centre bearing

The rubber-mounted bearing supporting the propshaft halfway along its length.

Also called centre support bearing, carrier bearing.

How you know it is this

  • A vibration at a particular speed, often around 80–100 km/h
  • A clunk on take-up
  • Perished or collapsed rubber visible around the bearing
  • A rumble that changes with road speed

Worth knowing before you buy

  • One of the most common causes of a driveline vibration, and much cheaper than a propshaft.
  • The rubber perishes with heat and age rather than mileage.
  • On some shafts it is not separately available and the propshaft is supplied complete. Worth establishing before quoting.
  • Do the flex discs at the same time — same access, same age.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
