Oil pick-up strainer

The mesh screen in the sump through which the pump draws oil.

How you know it is this

  • Low oil pressure with a good pump and correct oil level
  • Pressure that is fine cold and poor hot
  • Sludge or plastic debris found blocking the mesh

Worth knowing before you buy

  • A blocked strainer starves the engine and is the quiet killer behind many bearing failures. Fragments from failed timing guides collect here.
  • Cheap. Always inspected and usually replaced whenever the sump is off.
  • A blocked strainer means the engine has been running on long intervals or has shed something internally. Find out which.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
