Bonnet hinges, struts and catch

The hinges, the gas struts that hold it up, and the catch and release mechanism.

How you know it is this

  • A bonnet that will not stay up
  • A bonnet that will not latch, or will not release
  • A bonnet sitting crooked in its aperture
  • A bonnet-open warning with the bonnet shut

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Gas struts lose their gas and are a wear item. Cheap, and always replaced in pairs.
  • A bonnet-open warning with the bonnet shut is the catch microswitch, not the bonnet.
  • Some later cars have active bonnet hinges that lift in a pedestrian impact. Those are pyrotechnic and must not be handled casually.
  • A cable that has stretched or seized is the usual reason a bonnet will not release.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
