Also called IBS, battery management sensor.
How you know it is this
- A charging fault with a good alternator and a good battery
- Stop-start disabled with no other explanation
- Corroded, furry terminal clamps
- Intermittent no-start with everything testing fine
Worth knowing before you buy
- The sensor is how the car knows the battery's state. A faulty one makes the charging system behave wrongly with healthy hardware either side of it.
- Corroded terminals cause every symptom a flat battery causes. Cleaning them is free and should always come first.
- The sensor is part of the negative lead on many cars, so it is bought as a lead assembly.
- Usually needs registering or resetting after a battery change.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
