Gearboxes — complete, on exchange

A complete used or exchange automatic gearbox.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • THE GEARBOX CODE DECIDES IT, not the year. The 722.6 and the 722.9 overlap by seventeen years, so a box from a car of the same age is frequently the wrong one.
  • Before buying one at all, be certain the gearbox has failed. On the 722.9 a conductor plate or valve body produces the same symptoms at a small fraction of the cost.
  • A used box has to be CODED to your car and its adaptations reset, or it shifts badly with good hardware.
  • Ask whether the torque converter comes with it. Fitting your old converter to a replacement box carries the old debris straight in.
  • 4MATIC and rear-drive boxes are different, and so are the bellhousings for different engines.

What we need to quote it. The gearbox code, the chassis number, and whether the car is 4MATIC. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
