Brake light switch

The switch on the pedal box that turns the brake lights on, and tells the engine and gearbox that you are braking.

How you know it is this

  • Brake lights permanently on, or not coming on at all
  • Cruise control refusing to engage
  • The car refusing to shift out of Park
  • An engine warning light that appears with no driveability fault

Worth knowing before you buy

  • A cheap part that causes expensive-looking symptoms. Worth ruling out early.
  • Most have two circuits — one for the lights and one for the electronics — and only one may have failed.
  • Some need a set procedure to adjust on fitting or they read as permanently pressed.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
