Manifold gaskets

The gaskets sealing the inlet and exhaust manifolds to the cylinder head.

How you know it is this

  • A ticking that is loudest on a cold start and quietens as things expand — an exhaust manifold leak
  • A hunting idle or a whistle — an inlet leak
  • Soot marks around the manifold face

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Exhaust manifold studs shear. Budget for a stud extraction as part of the job rather than as a surprise.
  • Inlet and exhaust gaskets are different materials and different parts.
  • A cold-start tick that goes away warm is almost always this, and it is cheap to put right early.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and inlet or exhaust. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
