Steering angle sensor

The sensor in the column that tells the car which way the wheel is turned. ESP, lane keeping and parking aids all rely on it.

How you know it is this

  • ESP light on permanently
  • A fault appearing straight after steering, airbag or alignment work
  • ESP intervening on a straight, dry road

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Must be calibrated after fitting, and after any alignment.
  • Very often the fault is calibration rather than the sensor. Check that before buying.
  • On many cars it is part of the clock spring assembly and cannot be bought alone.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
